Hope for the Earth is a student-led sustainability initiative developed with Hope Academy, St Helens Council, Seamster & Shepherd and Roberts Group International.
Launched on World Environment Day 2026, the project gives students the chance to explore textile reuse through practical design and making. Working with reclaimed textiles sourced through RGI’s collection and sorting operations, students are creating original fashion pieces for a summer showcase.
Bringing Circularity Into The Classroom
The initiative began with students learning about the journey of textiles after donation, including how unwanted clothing can be sorted, reused, recycled and kept in circulation for longer.
Students also visited RGI headquarters in Widnes, where they saw textile sorting and processing first-hand before selecting materials for their own designs.
Developing Skills Through Creativity
More than 20 students are taking part in full-day workshops led by Seamster & Shepherd, supported by St Helens Council’s Recycling Engagement Team and RGI student community interns.
Through sewing, weaving, crochet and garment construction, the project helps young people connect sustainability with creativity, confidence and practical skills.
The finished pieces will be showcased at the Hope for the Earth Sustainable Fashion Show in July 2026, celebrating student creativity and the potential of reclaimed textiles.
