Journey of a T-Shirt is an educational workshop delivered by Roberts Group International’s Community Team as part of the St Helens Youth Sustainability Forum.

Invited by St Helens Borough Council, RGI represented the textile recycling industry at the annual forum, joining a wider group of organisations delivering interactive sustainability sessions for young people.

The event welcomed around 60 pupils from six schools across the borough for a day of discussion, collaboration and hands-on learning.

A Practical Look At Textile Recycling

The workshop invited pupils to think like textile recycling specialists. Through interactive activities, discussion and real-world examples, students explored what happens to clothing after it is donated.

They learned how textiles are assessed and graded, why keeping clothing in use for longer is the preferred option, and how materials that can no longer be worn can still be transformed into useful new products.

Partnership Beyond Collections

RGI’s involvement in the forum reflects its wider partnership with St Helens Borough Council through the Liverpool City Region textile recycling framework.

Alongside managing public textile recycling banks in the borough, RGI works with schools, community groups and local organisations to raise awareness of reuse, repair and recycling.

By bringing industry knowledge into the classroom, Journey of a T-Shirt helps young people connect everyday clothing choices with the wider circular economy.
